Founded more than ten years ago, the Scuola Voci Bianche [Youth Singing School] of Fondazione Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti di Modena is a project open to boys and girls from 6 to 18 years of age, which intends to foster a knowledge of music and create the audiences of tomorrow. Participants follow a teaching programme with lessons twice a week from October to May, which aims to provide them with a basic musical education and train them in choral singing and the use of their voices as an important tool for growth, communication and socialisation.

The associated choir performs regularly and is involved in the Theatre’s opera seasons. It has sung in opera productions including Suor Angelica (2007), Tosca (2008) and La bohème (2012) by Puccini and Bizet’s Carmen (2009). Some works have been specifically staged to showcase the youth school’s activities, including Britten’s The Little Sweep (2006, 2008 and 2016), while others have been commissioned by the Theatre itself, such as Il principe granchio (2006), a children’s opera by Paolo Furlani, Biancaneve e i sette nani (2011), on a libretto by Roald Dahl, Artificial Light (2011) by Marco Galarini and Claudio Silvestrelli, Oliver Twist (2012) by Cristian Carrara, Olympia.2000 (2013) by Paolo Molinelli and Le Rane che chiedevano un Re (2014), with libretto and score by Paolo Gattolin.

Information and online registration are available on the Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti di Modena site.
