Concluding the coaching course led by Mirella Freni (Masterclass 2016), Gianni Schicchi, the comic opera by Giacomo Puccini, was staged on 14 and 15 January 2017 at Teatro Comunale “Luciano Pavarotti” in Modena. The cast was made up of students from the coaching course, of various nationalities, some of them already with active professional operatic careers. The only exception was Sergio Vitale, an acclaimed young singer already in demand with opera houses such as Teatro San Carlo, Naples, who played the title role of Gianni Schicchi. The opera was conducted by Stefano Seghedoni, with the Orchestra dell’Opera Italiana in the pit, with direction by Stefano Monti, sets by Rinaldo Rinaldi and lighting by Andrea Ricci. Gianni Schicchi was a Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Modena production.
